It certainly has been a long time since I’ve told you about a slinger in St. Louis hasn’t it? You always get my standard apologies when it’s been awhile: I’m taking three classes at UMSL this semester, my daughter is now running and talking, and I’ve also begun a new blog on music.

I am sorry I’ve been neglecting the blog that people care about, but I do have a couple slinger tales for you now!

A couple weekends back, the family and I were at the Pink Flamingo Festival at City Garden. It was actually my first time going to City Garden and I just loved it. While we were out there, a man wearing a Pink Flamingo as a hat and cowel handed us a menu for a chili bar. Of course curiosity got the best of me and we were on our way to brunch.

Here we are.

I received an email from the former owner of Riverside Cafe. She wanted to let me know that she and her family were opening up a new restaurant and that she really wanted me to try her slinger. Her slinger was always one of my favorites and I was very sad to see her larger place go.

She was always very particular about her slingers. She was always very proud of them and did a very fine job with them. I was thinking about the fact that I’ve had the Riverside Cafe slinger about four times and just loved it each time. Could I review it again?

Welcome back.

A friend of mine from out of town, Kalamzoo, MI to be exact, wanted to try her first slinger. She’d seen me eat a couple and she was finally ready to throw down.

Well, I had to think where could I take her that I knew would have a good slinger? Well, my first thought was to hit up The Buttery Restaurant..because it was good and I’ve just been wanting to get back there for quite awhile. Well, it turned out they were closed, so we ended up on the other side of Tower Grove Park to go to the Courtesy Diner Kingshighway, and it got me thinking about the time I did a quick update on the Chris’s Pancake House slinger…and how it had gotten pretty awful since I’d last had one.

Here we go.

I’ve been so busy with fish frys, steak sandwiches, beers, and other such nonsense, I didn’t realize I hadn’t gone out for a slinger in forever and a day. I looked back through my posts…it has been over two months since I’ve gone out to review a slinger. Who in the hell let me go two months without reviewing a slinger?

Oh well, let’s be on with it. The Piccadilly at Manhattan is just inside the St. Louis City limits in the Ellendale Neighborhood. There were signs all over the street saying “Ellendale welcomes you” so that’s good enough for me. They only do slingers during their Sunday Brunch…so I was concerned there may be a slinger fail…

The Saloon.

This past weekend we took another trip out to find a slinger…my last one before the baby actually…  What we didn’t know when we got in the car was that we would be ending up in on the Near North Side in a biker bar…

But let’s back up a little bit.  One of my readers pointed out that Southtown Pub now serves slingers…but I didn’t know that they only serve them with Sunday Brunch…so, all of a sudden we were heading out to our back up place…which we didn’t have. Bob remembered there was a biker bar that had a slinger on Broadway, so we got back in the car and headed north….

Let’s eat.

Back in the saddle. Well, here we are again. This past holiday weekend we made it out to try another slinger.  I’d been told a few times that I needed to try the Rooster Slinger, so we head out to give it a try.

I have to say that I really wasn’t too enthused about trying it.  This is another of what I’m now calling “duty slingers,” or perhaps “idiom” slinger is a better term?  Either way, it wasn’t  a traditional St. Louis slinger, but that no longer stops me from trying them out.  It seems like every so often I have to widen my slinger search to include things I wouldn’t have last year.

The place.

So, again and again. We’re off on another slinger adventure.  As what seems to be pretty normal these days, this trip was a comedy of errors.  Meh, whatever man, we had a fun morning.

So, we decided we were heading to the Schlafly Tap Room for the Schalfly Slinger.  We get in, and we sit down at our table, order up a couple beers…hey Johnny Cash had beer with his breakfasts…and we looked over the menu, and we didn’t see any breakfast stuff to speak of….so our waitress comes over and apparently the slinger is at the Bottleworks in Maplewood, or they don’t have it anymore…either way…we were out of luck here.

I see that we meet again.

Alrighty then! So, I’m really stupid late on this particular post.  For that I apologize greatly, but better late than never.  Also, we’re going to use stock photos from the first visit to The U when I got their slinger burger.

So let’s get down to it I suppose.  This weekend, we were going to be doing a lot of stuff around the house, and then I was headed to a soccer game.  I think what ended up happening was I got upset about something, and my wife being the wonderful woman that she is, decided to say; let’s got get breakfast, do you want a slinger?  Well, in this day and age of the slinger hunt, I kind of need to plan ahead.  If you just spring it on me I don’t know where to go! So, I blurted out, The U.

Here we are.

Good morning! Welcome back to the show that never ends, but does seem to take long breaks these days.  Sorry!! Well, I have some good reasons…most of which being that my life is changing and getting far more hectic far more quickly than I expected.  I’m also hard at work on the Floodplain Footy, and school and home stuff of course, however, do you really care all the goofy stuff?

Probably not, so without further preamble, let’s get to the next preamble. So, whenever I ask anyone about where to get a slinger at a dinery/divey place in St. Louis City, someone always returns with: Tiffany Diner in Maplewood, because, Nik/Bat/13 it’s just RIGHT outside the City you can count it as the City.

Here we are.

It has certainly been longer than it should have been.  At least that’s really what it seems like to me.

For that, I’m all kinds of sorry, but things in my life have been pretty damned hectic lately, and finding time to get out and having a new slinger has just really been at a premium.  However, this past weekend, I got back out there  and had myself a slinger at the Jefferson Ave Bistro.

This was our second trip into the Gravois Park Neighborhood.  I thought we were off to Benton Park or Benton Park West, but apparently, we just were a little too far south for that, so I’m going to have to try a bit harder to get up there.  I’ve been to there before, but it’s been awhile and never for breakfast.  I even checked their menu to see if they have a slinger, and there’s not one listed there.
