The entry way.

My wife noticed that a slinger could be had at the 1904 Beerhouse.

OK, when are we going?

It has been too long since I have reviewed a slinger. If you saw me on HEC-TV,  you know that I realize this has been too long.

So, here we are and what was really delightful about this particular slinger run is that we had no kind of slinger fail, I enjoyed a wonderful beer with my slinger, and for those who have asked me about this in the past, I had a fried egg with my slinger. The menu listed it as fried, so I ordered a fried egg slinger.

Thank you very much for the kind words. I don’t know that I’ll ever do anything like that.

This is just my little corner of the interwebs to be creative and chase down a great dive bar or a great slinger. (Headed out again next week for the slinger.)

Thank you for reading!!!

Ask me anything

That really depends on what your point of view is.

I was born in Alton, IL back in the 70’s. When I was three months old, I was spirited back to the Missouri Side of the River.

From that point, I bounced all around the Metro Area, including the county, Illinois, Rural Missouri and Lafayette Square, Northampton, Dutchtown, Lafayette Park, and Tower Grove South. I spend a number of years outside of the City Limits and I’m glad to be back. My exwife and I didn’t see eye to eye on the City of St. Louis, so we compromised and ended up in the County.

Well, I’m back in the City and now trying to help the city in the best way I can. I consider St. Louis to be my hometown.

Thanks for the question!!

Ever been Eovaldi’s on The Hill? Great deli sandwiches. It’s in an old building which is a former salami factory, so it’s got a cool authentic retro atmosphere that is the exact opposite of the typical Applebee/TGIF prefabricated atmosphere.
As loath as I am to say this, I don’t really get to the Hill all that much, and in large part I’m a creature of habit. I don’t try a whole lot of new places, funny huh, unless I’m prompted.

When I want a really good sandwich what I like best is Blues City Deli in Benton Park. I’ve only eaten at about three places on the Hill that I can think of….two were very nice sit down Italian, of course, and one was a nice Scicilian Pizza joint.

I’ll have no problem remembering the name of the street this one is on…lol. I’ll check it out some weekend when I really want a sandwich.

Also, here’s another confession from the 13 Blog.

I can’t order a sandwich. I am no good at it. I have to have my companions order it for me. There’s one person in this world that always orders it properly, too bad it’s not my wife. 🙂

Thanks for the question and keep them coming!!

Although the quest for the perfect slinger goes on, have you found a favorite slinger yet in your travels and if so, which one?

Yes, the quest goes on…though a bit frustratingly so right now. As I told the proprietor of 12th Street Diner a couple weeks back, my current favorite would have to be Chris's Pancake House's slinger.

Theirs comes with pancakes…I mean seriously?! It's very large and comes with a large helping of properly cut white onions.

This post here:

This was an early post so the good pictures and such didn't happen, but you get the gist I think.

It's 2010. Where is my flying car?

I'm very sorry, but this blog is about diners, dives, slingers, and bourbon. You could search out a good science blog to find out about flying cars.

I’m Sorry For Ignoring You….

Hello. Hello.  I know, I know.  I’ve been very disrespectful.  I have some great places on the dockett.  I really do.  I’ve got a couple diners and some dive bars coming up soon, but….

Right now, my lady and I are in the home stretch of our wedding you see.  This Saturday is when we’re getting married, then we’re going to party our butts off with our closest friends and family all night. So, we really are at the 11th hour of the wedding.  Which is why, I’ve not had much time to really  get to my blog.  I’m so sorry, I really am.  I’ve really been wanting to get out and get some slingers and some awful bourbon and cokes.

Yes, I’ve ignored the blog, but if you follow me on twitter, you’ll see that my microblogging has not slowed down one iota!  So, please follow me twitter and join up on the facebook fan page.  Best ways to get news and views outta my head that way.

But hark!  Here’s what I have coming up:

Chili Macs, 12th Street Diner, Missouri Grill.

Ray’s on Gravois in Bevo, and a host of Carondelet dive bars the world has to meet.  On top of that, I have a couple special things coming up as well.  My best friend is performing my wedding.  Due to his being a minister and living in New York State, we don’t see each other all that often anymore.  So, this Friday night, we’re pub crawling our old haunts.  I will certainly blog about that.  This should be a fun, fun read!

Then, I have another conceptual blog post.  How to make a dive bar in your own house, including karaoke.

A couple things here.  The newest bit is that I have created a fan page for the 13 Blog on Facebook.  There are already a few fans, but we’re hoping for more.   I don’t really know why I made it, but I think it’s neat, and I do hope to get many, many fans of what we do here.  On the facebook fan page, all of our fans/members can post photos, links, and what not.  I guess I’m just kind of hoping that we can make a small community or something that would be fun.  It will also be a way to pass along news to more folks like I do with twitter.  So, please clicky clicky and become a fan!

This is a chain email I just received from a close friend of mine who I went to High School with. She’s an Illinois transplant. Now, yes I went to high school in Illinois but I was born in…Illinois…but due to it being the seventies, and my parents getting married because they ‘had to,’ Drawing of the state of King Louis IX (Saint Louis) whom our town is named that stands in front of the history museum in Forest Park. my mother quickly spirited me back to this side of the Mighty Mississippi and eventually into the heart of St. Louis City…except at the time it was a scurry place.

Good afternoon!!

Just some information as to what the deuce has been going on here again at the 13 Blog.  You may have noticed some new ‘decorations’ around the place.  That change has been made due to the fact that, well, I now have to literally pay for content.  I no longer just spout out what comes to mind, but I have to deliberately set up a time to go out, take photos, and review a place.  I get no compensation from the places I go to, and nothing comped.  It’s all out of pocket.  So, thanks to my goodly level of readership, I put them there.  Just having them there, doesn’t do anything for me, but it’s a start.  I’m not trying to make any money to speak, just to have a way to help offset my costs of content.  I hope that makes sense.

Also, again, down the side of the page, I am continually trying to tweak it and make it a bit better.  Again, since I’m now having to pay for content, I’m trying to ad as much non-posting content as possible.  So I try to put stuff around the postings, to at least make somebody laugh.  Also, with the recent album purchases, yes I purchased CDs and not iTunes or MP3s.  Each album cover that will be over there will be from a photo I took from my BlackBerry, uploaded to flickr, cleaned it, re-sized it and linked it!  Also, I need to change “Sonic Boom” to not recommended.  (If anybody has any questions, feel free to email me and I’ll give a great soliliquiy on the titles pictured.) The daily photo is still there as well, and anythign else I see that catches my eye on a daily basis.

My request:

I am really hoping that my new direction is being enjoyed and and such.  Please help me continue this by clicking the share links if you liked the articles.  The share buttons at the bottom of each post are the best share widgets I’ve seen.  They have pretty much every service that anybody in the world uses.  So, if you got a giggle, thought it was interesting, etc, please share it with others.  I’m not trying to get famous or get rich, but having people read and enjoy the ridiculous stuff I do, is very, very awesome indeed.
